Barber & Co 22nd December

Friday, December 24th, 2010

The window at Barber & Co was produced by local artist Nickie Swain who is also a police officer.  The normal crowd was there together with our local bobby PC Ben Satchfield.  Our community police officers have supported the Advent Windows project wholeheartedly and have managed to be present for most of the window openings.  The staff from Barber & Co provided hospitality.

Country Properties 21st December

Friday, December 24th, 2010

The Country Properties Advent Window was created by Alice Jupp, Environmental Officer for the Diocese of St Albans, produced imaginatively out of recycled material.  A good crowd assembled in the High Street and yet more wine and mince pies were consumed.

SuSu Flood

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Went down to the village for some last minute bits, horrified to find that SuSu have had a flood. They seem to have lost a lot of their stock and furnishings and it was a hive of activity in there to try and clear up. Village spirit prevailed and the girls were getting help from their neighbours. Susan thinks they might be out of action for a month or more…what will I do without my spiritual home?! Seasons Greetings and good luck to the SuSu girls.

St Mary’s Church 20th December

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Following the Big Carol Sing in the churchyard a large crowd gathered for the opening of the window created by Trailblazers and Crossbearers. We were not disappointed!  A lovely window with a nativity scene surrounded by messages of Peace, Hope Love and Joy. The young people and their families had worked hard to create such an elaborate window.

18 Church Street 19th December

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

By Sunday it was bitterly cold and very snowy but this didn’t deter the hardy window gazers from being there at dusk for the unveiling of the latest glorious window in Welwyn’s Advent Calendar.  After singing and much hopping from foot to foot to keep warm, we all trooped into Roger and Judith’s kitchen for an excellent brew of mulled wine, fairy cakes and mince pies.

Osprey 18th December

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

By now the snow was starting to come down quite fast, but nevertheless a good-sized crowd appeared from within the shops and the church where decorating for Christmas was in full swing.  We sang and admired the window created by Zoe Nicholson for Osprey and the staff invited us in for Buck’s Fizz and sherry, not to mention the odd mince pie.

Mimram Place 17th December

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

On a very cold and frosty evening a hardy group assembled for the opening of Anneli Boon’s window at 16 Mimram Place.  The Scandinavian-style biscuits and mulled wine was particularly welcome to stave off the cold.  This window tucked away round the corner from the High Street is well worth a visit to see a Finnish interpretation of the theme, Peace, Hope, Joy and Love

Monty The Cat 16th December

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Another lovely window designed by Rosie Pollard. Rosie and Sarah welcomed us in with pink lemonade and beautiful pink miniature cakes which Rosie had made; she explained to us that the glitter on the cakes was edible but not digestible, which led to some very interesting conversations!

Peter Morgan Hairdressing 15th December

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

A lovely opening at Peter Morgan’s;  the window comprised 4 pictures produced by Juliette McGill of No 7 Cooking Academy surrounded by Peters fabulous decorations. Peter had completely transformed his garden into Santas Grotto, and my son Jack was thrilled that there was a smoke machine again. Peter threw a lovely party for his friends and family and we all enjoyed his hospitality.
