The Crib Service at St Mary’s was packed this afternoon and the 24th Advent Window was created when the Christmas Story characters were placed into the nativity scene under the altar. Many thanks to many of the Window Owners and Producers who came and participated by carrying the characters in procession to the crib, together with many of the children who came to the service with their families. The children came to the front, and in the darkened church faced the lit nativity and sang Away in a Manger, which was a wonderful moment. We wish you all a very happy and blessed Christmas and thank you for embracing the Advent Windows initiative with such enthusiasm and community spirit.

Created entirely out of wallpaper by Kimberley Bevan (though you wouldn’t know it) today’s window opened at The Barber’s Room. One client happily had his haircut interrupted so Mick could unveil the window and everyone then enjoyed a glass of wine and nibbles. We decided The Christmas Song was too difficult to sing so sang Away in a Manger instead! A couple of people stayed on to get their hair cut whilst they were there.

This window at The Rose & Crown was created by Annette O’Donnell and lots of children who attend Artskool-kids in Welwyn. There was great excitement when the covers came off yesterday evening and thanks to Sue in the pub for providing mince pies to all those who came to the opening

The snow fell heavily but that didn’t deter people from coming out to see the Chrysalis School’s window at the Old Chequers. Mulled wine and nibbles were much appreciated on this chilly night – thanks to Clare

Created by St Mary’s ‘Sparklers’ this window opened in Hill & Co the Violin Shop after the children had performed their Nativity on Sunday morning. The day was, in fact, very ‘deep and crisp and even’ with lovely blue sky

We created a bit of a traffic jam this afternoon with so many people, a rather narrow pavement and still lots of snow and ice. Many thanks to Roger and Judith for mulled wine, all sorts of nibbles and a beautiful window.

Given the amount of snow in the village, a big thank you to everyone who came to see Tenterfield’s Advent Window open in the Library. Father Christmas dropped in and did some magic during storytime, which was great since it’s just coming up to his very busy period. Miriam from the Library read a couple of stories and fed us with mince pies and juice.

Such a wonderful idea – my youngest was involved in creating the window for display at Bryan Bishop’s – I do hope this will be the start of a village tradition. I wish I’d been able to get to many of the unveilings, but now my workplace is shut for Christmas, our family is aiming to attend as many of the remaining reveals as possible. Please thank everyone involved.
